A charity event held at the Margaret River RAC Nature Park has raised a whopping $23,000 to help a local family. 'Bald for Bianca' was the brainchild of local Melanie Grace, who put her 21-year old dreadlocks on the chopping block as the centrepiece of the community-supported event, which raised funds for her good friend Bianca. "This journey began for Bianca last year," explained Melanie. "She was forced to cease work and within a week of diagnosis her left breast was removed. "Oncologists informed Bianca that there is no conventional therapy for her cancer, therefore various sorts of alternative treatments have been her option to help rid her of the disease. "Bianca is away on the Gold Coast undergoing highly intensive treatments. Just this alone is costing their family $25,000 – $30,000." Bianca and partner Jared said they were stunned by the support. "The whole event was so overwhelming for us, with love and support we didn't know existed! This community is something to really treasure," they said. Melanie said she was lucky to live in such a generous community. "The Bald for Bianca event was beyond amazing," she said. "I am still overwhelmed, my heart is exploding with love and my head is freezing without it's new best friend, the beanie! "Thank you so much to everyone that came along and/or helped out on the day. "An abundant amount of gratitude goes out to all of the local businesses that donated so generously towards the BBQ, raffles and silent auction. "The grand total raised for Bianca and her young family is $23,000 which is absolutely mind blowing. "How lucky are we to live in this beautiful community!?" 'Bald for Bianca' raises $23,000 for cancer treatment
