The inaugural 'Gracetown Solstice Banquet' by Flor Marché and Saltbush Dining took place on June 21 at the Gracetown Hall. The 'Narnia' themed event attracted a diverse range of locals who attended in theatrical costume. On arrival guests witnessed the spectacle of six blazing fire pits by Nigel Lullfitz. They were then invited to step through the magical cupboard to enter Narnia. Harpist Helen Punch created an ethereal ambiance with her transporting harp sounds filling the hall. Following the Banquet, guests were invited to follow the papier maché Pan effigy to the fire pits where Pan was sacrificed to the pagen gods in celebration of the winter solstice. Led by Casey Murphy a troupe of fire spinners performed amongst the blazing fire pits. Inside the hall local band 'Sunbird' commenced with Lee Cummings and Dave Lawrence. Guests jumped around in their Narnia costumes revelling in the funky grooves. Later DJ Saramony -aka Sarah Asphar- spun some tunes to round out the evening. Flor Marché winemaker Elizabeth Reed was thrilled with the attendee's commitment to the event and praised the performers. 'It was wonderful to have a community event that attracted such a diverse range of people. "A fantastic platform for contributors to display their talents to a wide audience," she said.
