Race-by-race tips and preview for Scone on Monday

Track good 4 and rail out 5m so should play even early before trending towards the outside.

RACE 1 – 12.20PM: SEGENHOE STUD MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)

Intriguing opener. Market action could centre around two runners. Impressive two-year-old Randwick gelding 7. Vici returns as a gelding for his second prep seemingly a much stronger horse. Looked good winning a recent Rosehill trial when stalking a slow speed and accelerated away with something in hand.

Dangers: Debutant two-year-old colt 5. Giordano (Verrazano x Ally Armour by Bradburys Luck) has had two forward trials for the Kris Lees yard, the latest held together from the front in open company after showing early speed, and this looks a nice starting point while two-year-old Warwick Farm filly 8. Just Jessie is also first-up off a smart trial win for leading juvenile stable.
How to play it: Vici to win and quinella 5 and 7.

RACE 2 – 12.55PM: YARRAMAN PARK MAIDEN HANDICAP (900m)

Open affair with nearly half the field on debut, including three-year-old Wyong colt 2. Rifles (Smart Missile x Senora by Fusaichi Pegasus) which has won both home track trials in smart fashion.
Dangers: Plenty of them headed by three-year-old Newcastle gelding 3. Reveal The Magic which defied his big price on debut at home hitting the line hard. Three-year-old Warwick Farm gelding and first starter 1. Entitlement (Unencumbered x Encosta Bell by Encosta de Lago) has trialled twice, the latest close-up in open company, and has blinkers for the first time. Two-year-old Newcastle filly 10. Iconic Star resumed off two sharp trials wins with an encouraging run behind the smart Enforcement, and should improve again although drawn right off the track. Rival Newcastle filly 11. Mary Magpie resumes off two trials, and normally comes to hand fairly quickly while wide exotic players should include local two-year-old gelding 5. Chastise (Star Witness x Castigate by Street Cry) who draws the fence on debut.
How to play it: Rifles to win and first four 1-2/1-2-3-6-10-11.

RACE 3 – 1.35PM: SARDOS COFFEE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300m)

Three-year-old Wyong gelding 3. Commander Bell has found the line nicely in two runs back, and is even better suited here on the long sweeping stretch from a good draw.
Dangers: Local three-year-old gelding 1. Scatjak is much better than his disappointing first-up run at Quirindi when well backed, and will improve back on home track with rider taking 4kg off. Three-year-old Newcastle gelding 5. Let It Be has been gelded and is a big watch resuming off a recent trial win. Didnt fire a shot last year in first prep in much deeper maiden class, but has been given plenty of time, and will return a better galloper. Another local in two-year-old filly 7. Love Me Quietly continues to improve in her first prep, and should be peaking fourth-up, although drawn wide while market watch too on three-year-old Newcastle filly 8. Amplified which has been only fair in two runs back against slighter stronger company, but has trialled soundly at home.
How to play it: Commander Bell each way and trifecta 1-3-5/1-3-5-7-8.

RACE 4 – 2.10PM: COOLMORE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600m)

Well-bred local four-year-old mare 8. Artefiori was disappointing from off the speed second-up this trip at Taree, but can peak here back on preferred home track.
Dangers: Four-year-old Mudgee gelding 7. Thunderzone has his hoof right on the pulse powering home from well off the speed in two runs back at Dubbo. Was competitive in a Rosehill Highway earlier in the year, and should love the spacious mile around this track. Three-year-old Wyong gelding 1. High Court finished strongly to win his maiden this track at fifth start, but up in weight and drawn a tricky gate while another Wyong-based gelding, 9. Grand Acheeva, pulled one out of the box to claim his maiden upsetting Chambermaid at Quirindi and, while this is tougher, draws well and should be around the finish.
How to play it: Artefiori to win and quinella 7 and 8.

RACE 5 – 2.45PM: EMIRATES PARK CLASS 1 HANDICAP (SCALED, -1.0KG) 900m

Good quality short-course dash that looks a race in three. Well-bred and smart Newcastle filly 4. Zaniah, by Zoustar, bolted in first-up at Taree, and will take a tonne of catching again.

Dangers: Three-year-old Warwick Farm filly 5. Dizzy Miss Lizzy is the immediate threat off a strong closing effort fourth-up behind a good horse at Muswellbrook, and will again be finishing hard while Randwick colt 2. North held on from the front to win his maiden on debut at Wyong, and then boxed on OK when behind the place-getters on heavy ground at Randwick. This looks easier, but drawn wide and theres plenty of speed underneath.
How to play it: Zaniah to win and box trifecta 2-4-5.

RACE 6 – 3.20PM: SHOWTIME @ ARROWFIELD STUD CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1400m)

Keen on three-year-old Newcastle gelding 6. Supreme Streak up in trip second-up. Was well backed when finishing off strong resuming at Quirindi, but improves significantly into next run, and better suited this track from an ideal trailing draw.
Dangers: Rival three-year-old Newcastle filly 9. Airlie Avenue looks the main threat up in trip after flying home to win her maiden two back at Port Macquarie before another strong finishing effort at Taree. In well at the weights for leading trainer/rider combination. Local three-year-old gelding
7. Tomatin will drift back from a wide barrier, but has a big final 400m sprint and should appreciate this track after four runs back and blinkers going on. Local five-year-old gelding 8. Mark My Word finds it hard to win, but was strong late in a good BM58 at Read More – Source
