Callum Halfway Highway (Tony Clay) has had a tough time of it on EastEnders, what with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) blackmailing him over his sexuality.

And it doesnt look like things are getting any easier for him, as his dad Jonno (Richard Graham) makes a surprise visit to Walford, ahead of his wedding to Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).

But while Callum and brother Stuart (Ricky Champ) are initially thrilled to have their dad back on the scene, its not long before Jonno makes his presence known in Albert Square.

Well, family reunions are never exactly smooth in EastEnders, and the Highway family should know that more than most…

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Tony lifted the lid on how Callum reacts to his latest family reunion.

I think Jonno is the crutch of it all – you really see in him why Callum and Stuart have so many issues, he told us.

You see where Stuarts aggression comes from and why Callum is so reluctant to come forward about how he feels as he has someone who has suppressed him and put him down all these years. Its all about Callum trying to be the man to prove himself to his dad – but thats not who he wants to be. He just wants his dad to be proud of him but hes never going to be because nothing he ever does is good enough

He has seen his dad be aggressive when he was younger – he has that hold over them still. The minute he walks back in, its “here we go again”. But equally, theres a hope that it could all work out okay.

Maybe they can do this and do the whole family thing, even with what did happen with Ben – but then again, it is EastEnders, isnt it?

Weve seen the impact that Stuart has had on the people of the Square and now you are going to see the root of that and thats in his dad. That can only bring a whirlwind. Hes the life of the party but behind closed doors, he is something else entirely and he brings a real edge to the Square.
