Tom Hardy has been confirmed to take on the role of investigative journalist Eddie Brock once again in a sequel to 2018s Venom.
Producer Amy Pascal announced the news in an interview with Fandango, saying: I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can.
When asked why Venom would be back for a second round, she revealed the 41-year-old actor had a lot to do with the decision.
Its a couple of things, she explained. One of them is that Sony did a great job creating that franchise and giving it a life and giving it its own world. Then theres Tom Hardy.
When you think of Venom, youll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters. And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, thats all you needed to know.

The first Venom movie received terrible reviews from critics, but was one of the highest grossing films of the year after grossing $850 million (£667 million) at the box office.
Thats more than Deadpool 2 and Wonder Woman.
Before the films release, Tom said he would be up for reviving his role as Eddie: Its an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, its the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were. Were all prepped for it to be a standalone universe.
So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, its a fulcrum piece. But lets see what happens when it lands.
Sounds like no one was too bothered about that negative criticism…

Marvel boss Kevin Feige definitely wasnt, as hes put the feelers out for a Venom and Spider-Man crossover movie as Sony has the rights to both characters.

I think probably its up to Sony, Feige told CinemaBlend. Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I dont know what their plans are for another Venom or if theyre doing that. But it seems likely at some point.
