(Picture: ITV/BBC/Metro.co.uk)

We spend years getting to know these characters and then, selfishly, the actors decide that its time to go and try other projects meaning that our favourites will be leaving – how selfish! Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders have some exits and cast changes on the horizon from Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) to Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) and Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh).

Thankfully, some of these are just extended breaks for maternity leave – but others seem a lot more long term and even potentially permanent. Here, we take a look at who is going – and how they might make their exit.

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) – Emmerdale

While Emmerdale and Ryan have yet to officially confirm the news that Robert is going so as to preserve secrecy around the ongoing storyline, reports have revealed that the popular character will have departed by the end of the year – meaning an end to Robron.

Rumoured storyline speculation includes the possibility that Robert will be jailed after killing Victorias rapist Lee or that he may be forced to go on the run after committing a foolish crime. However, no details are available at this stage.

Michelle Connor and Robert Preston (Kym Marsh and Tristan Gemmill) – Coronation Street

With both characters set to depart, it looks like the relationship between Michelle and Robert is going to implode – and its little wonder! Robert is hiding the fact that he is having a secret affair with Vicky – and she is pregnant! As he lives his double life and gets deeper and deeper into trouble, its bound to all fall apart.

So expect huge ructions before this pair leave our screens.

Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye) – Emmerdale

She may have recently avoided a prison sentence but Megan will soon be leaving our screens meaning that heartbreak could be on the horizon for Frank yet again. Of course, another exit could be ahead if the pair decide to leave the village together but it seems more likely that Megan may just cut her ties with the village that holds so many bad memories.

That said, our ultimate dream would be a Declan return to tie into it.

Its a little early to even guess at what Bethanys exit storyline might be given that Lucy doesnt actually stop filming until next year – although the actress is hopeful that her character will be kept alive and have a positive ending such as heading off to university or returnng to Italy.

Saying that, bosses seem to be concocting some huge material for Bethany before she leaves…

Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) – Coronation Street

In the wake of her loss of Rana, Kate will most likely want a fresh start away from Weatherfield so she can try and move on with her life. The door is being left open for Kate despite rumours that the character would be killed off – so theres every chance a future return could be on the cards.

Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) – EastEnders

With Lacey Turner pregnant, we are soon set to be getting a break from Stacey so could she and Martin end up splitting or could her on/off attraction to Max rear its head again before she departs? At the moment, she is at war with Kush over custody of Arthur so other speculation is that she could flee the Square with her son so Kush cant get to him…

Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) – Coronation Street
