Tributes have been pouring in for French musician and producer Philippe Zdar, one half of the dance duo Cassius, who has sadly died.

Zdar – real name Philippe Cerboneschi – is widely hailed as a pioneer of the French Touch sound and electronic music, having worked with the likes of Fatboy Slim, The Beastie Boys, Fedde Le Grand, Pharrell and Hot Chip.

He formed Cassius with Hubert Boom Bass; Blanc-Francard in 1991.

The duo had been about to release their new album Dreems, 20 years after their iconic debut in 1999.

Philippe was 52 years old at the time of his death.

According to reports he died after a fall from a window in a building in Paris.

His agent Sebastian Farran confirmed the news to the French media, saying: He made an accidental fall through the high window of a Parisian building.

The duo released their debut album 1999 in 1999 – which peaked at number 28 in the UK charts – and scored themselves a couple of top 20 singles along the way.

The biggest of these was 1999, which reached number seven that year.
