Young Cowaramup Bulls battle for bragging rights

The Cowaramup Bulls Red and Bulls Gold met for the second time this season for school playground bragging rights on Derby day on Saturday. The 9s got the ball rolling with a cracker of a game in which both teams had to earn their goals because neither defence was making scoring easy. Oscar Zan had a good game for Gold and Harper Payne looked to be playing with his usual flair. Bulls Red awards went to Jack Curtis, Finn McDonell and Oliver Healy and for Bulls Gold, Joey Cotrell, Lachlan Gamage, Xavier Hatherly, Lucas McCarthy and Sonny Petterson. The 11s played out a hard-fought game, with Gold applying scoreboard pressure early through some great set-shot kicking. At half time, Bulls Red coach, Adam Semenow, talked to his players about the need for the Red team – which had been under a fair bit of pressure in defence – to make sure they didn't get sucked into the backlines. Adam said it made it tricky for the Red defenders to find a teammate to pass to when they were trying to make their way out. Gold spread their scoring around with Kian Monaghan-Hall, Mackenzie Weeks, Mitch Jolliffe, Flynn Anderson and Avion Packer all on the goal scorers list. Cael Edmonds scored for Red and Anaru Day had a lot of close attempts, plus a few that hit the post. Zac Mulcahy also battled away all day with many gutsy efforts both with and without the ball. Bulls Gold awards: Jarrad Taylor, Mack Weeks, Kian Monaghan-Hall and Alex. Bulls Red Awards: Novak Webster, Zac Mulcahy and Anaru Day.
