Golfing greatness for Margaret River group

The members of the Margaret River Division 1 South West Golf Pennants team are celebrating their success after taking a win against Bunbury to collect the trophy for first place in the South West Golf Pennants tournament. Club spokesperson Renee Potter said the achievement was particularly significant given it was won by a small country club. The team consisted of Sue Bloxam, Penny Foy, Kerry Farrelly, Sarah Roddy, Ricky Coates, Maggie Foy, Linda Lister & Leonie Bell. Last week's Tuesday Veterans 9-hole Stableford competition saw John Norman in first place with a score of 20, while Colin Andrews came in second with a score of 19. Third was John Agnew scoring 17c/b points. Wednesday Women's 18-hole Jubilee Foursomes Competition was sponsored by Wendy Chidgey and had Patsy Bedford and Helen Priest in first place with 34 points. In second was Judy Anderson and Diane Yates with 33c/b points, and in third place was Kerry Farrelly and Allison Kelly on 33 points. Golfers competing in Thursday Men's Scroungers 18-hole Stableford event wished the rain would go away but it only got worse. With a starting field of 23 players, only 13 braved the storm to finish. First place went to Michael Moulton on 32c/b points, in second place was Derek Simpson on 32 points and third place went to Brian Seed on 28 points. The storms once again raged over the weekend, putting a damper on golfers at the club, but results were positive for those who braved the wind and rain. Saturday's 18-hole Mixed Stableford event had first place to Geoff Barrett on 33 points. Terry Halsall came in second place on 32 points while in third place, Brian Seed scored 31 points. Sunday's Mixed 18-hole Mixed Stableford Event had Trevor Sanders in first place with 32 points. Cathy Carroll landed in second place with 31c/b points and third place went to Ian Colmer on 31c/b points.
