SPEEDING, attempting to evade police and drink driving, a four-day police blitz on the region's roads has nabbed many doing the wrong thing. Operation Stay Alert commenced on Friday and will run until 11.59pm on Monday in an effort to reduce Western NSW's growing road toll. Despite "saturation policing" on the region's roads, Western Region Traffic Tactician Inspector Ben Macfarlane said a number of drivers had been caught doing the wrong thing. Also, 134 fines have been issued for a range of other infringements, with an additional 11 for restraint offences. In the three days, police conducted 4134 random breath tests across Western NSW, including 744 in the Orana Mid Western region, followed by Chifley (550), Central West (286) and Central North (209). Among the motorists caught out in the Orana Mid Western region during the weekend was a 46-year-old Warren male who was pulled over by officers at 10.20pm on Sunday. Insp Macfarlane said was "attempting to evade police by driving at high speeds along Dubbo Street and Hale Street, Warren". "He returned a positive breath test and at Warren Police Station recorded a reading of 0.124," he said. GRAPH: Story continues under table "The vehicle he was driving was also unregistered." The man's licence was suspended and he was issued a field court attendance notice for the offence of mid range PCA and drive unregistered vehicle. Then, at 2pm on Sunday a 36-year-old Narromine man was stopped on Dandaloo Street in Narromine for a random breath test. A 35-year-old Orange woman was stopped for an RBT in Lee Street Wellington at 7.20pm on Saturday and returned a positive breath test of 0.078. In Coolah at 1.50pm on Saturday, a 23-year-old man was allegedly caught by officers travelling at 66km/h in a 50km/h zone. He was issued a field court attendance notice for mid range PCA and not comply with interlock conditions and his was licence suspended. He also received an infringement for the exceed speed.
