Race-by-race guide and tips for Quirindi on Tuesday

Track Good 4 and Rail true so should play on pace early before evening out.

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Keen here on Scone-trained 3YO gelding 6. Scatjak off his fast-finishing first-up run at Gunnedah despite being unwanted in betting. Has had a trial since, and draws a nice gate, with a 4kg claim. Trainer won the Provincial C'ship Final at Randwick in the autumn.

Dangers: Tamworth 3YO gelding 3. Keighley Sun just missed flying home first-up at Moree and leading country rider goes on. Was beaten under a length at Armidale in only previous second-up run, and is the obvious short-priced danger.

How to play it: Scatjak to win and quinella 3 and 6.

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1450m):

Very modest and open affair. Scone 3YO filly 1. Chambermaid finished off OK second career start at Muswellbrook when specked at good odds, and should improve again up in trip.

Dangers: Muswellbrook filly 9. Kinks resumed with an average effort at huge odds at Gunnedah, but expect improvement here for strong trainer/rider combination. Wyong gelding 7. Grand Acheeva has a poor record with only one placing from 13 starts, but is coming back from much stronger maidens and draws the fence. Similar could be said for Cessnock 3YO gelding 8. Have A Go Joe who hasn't run a place in 12 starts, but also comes off a fair effort in a stronger maiden, and draws to be in the finish. Muswellbrook filly 10. Polish Train is also without a placing from nine starts, but has found the line strong in his last couple in better company, although drawn off the track. Include Mudgee 3YO gelding 3. Leica Benz and local filly 5. De La Reign in all exotics.

How to play it: Chambermaid to win and first four: 1-7-9/1-3-5-7-8-9-10.

Race 3 CL2 HCP (1450m):

Tricky affair. If 4YO Armidale mare 3. Scarlet Missile can get some early cover from a wide barrier, she's the one to beat despite rising in grade. Was heavily backed when just missing in a Class 1 at Coffs Harbour last start and should peak third-up. Significant jockey switch, with Greg Ryan booked.

Dangers: Cessnock 4YO gelding 5. All Day won a Class 1 from the front two runs back at Gunnedah before way outclassed in a Rosehill Highway. Back in right grade, and draws nicely. Loved the way Newcastle 4YO gelding 7. The Outcast attacked the line when ridden quieter for a dominant win third-up at Muswellbrook, and draws a nicely trailing gate, although this is tougher. Tamworth 3YO filly 2. Hammoon Ballad would have been nearly the one to beat from a better draw, even coming back in trip. Finished off nicely in a good BM 66 at Scone two runs back before outclassed in the much stronger Listed Bracelet at the Gold Coast. Will need luck, though, from a wide draw under a big weight. Armidale 4YO gelding 1. Falster is hard fit and hit the line nicely in his last two; while consistent 5YO Scone gelding 4. Augusta In April is regularly in or around the money, but struggles to win, although gets some weight relief.

How to play it: Scarlet Missile each way and first four 3-7/1-2-3-4-5-7.

Race 4 F & M CL1 HCP (1200m):

Really like Muswellbrook 3YO 2. Little Miss Nic third-up back a little in trip. Zoomed home to win resuming at Dubbo before disappointing in a BM 58 same track, but this isn't strong and draws to get an ideal trail.

Dangers: Wyong-trained 3. Soori improved to beat a nice horse fourth-up at Muswellbrook, and again draws to get a perfect run right behind the speed. Big watch at odds on Mudgee 5YO 4. Thin Ice who hasn't started for nearly two years, but looked sharp in a recent trial win for leading country stable. Gosford 4YO 1. Dancing Phryne hasn't been far away in decent form races this prep, draws the fence, and gets leading country hoop aboard, but has been handed a colossal 62 kgs.

How to play it: Little Miss Nic to win; quinella 2 and 3; and trifecta 2-3/1-2-3-4.

Race 5 C, G & E CL1 HCP (1200m):

Now the boys' turn, and looks a suitable race first-up for Newcastle 3YO gelding 4. Supreme Streak who draws nicely and generally fires early in the prep.

Dangers: Gosford 4YO gelding 3. Time Of Glory resumes off a very quiet trial, but also comes to hand fairly quickly. Muswellbrook 4YO gelding 8. Whonicked De Lolly has been very consistent this prep without winning, and again should be closing strong. Newcastle 3YO gelding 5. Jamaican Dream struggles to win, but is ready to peak fourth-up; while include at big odds 3YO stablemate 10. Comes 'N' Goes who hit the line hard in weaker company at Cessnock last start.

How to play it: Supreme Streak to win.
