Margaret River’s hockey women in 12-0 win

A late game on Saturday night saw the Margaret River senior women play without a goal keeper and the bare 11 players with no subs. From the first few minutes Margaret River looked strong and scored early. The opposition, Capel, struggled with only 9 players and Margaret River's quick early passing out played them. Margaret River marked up well in defence and utilised the strength, skill and experience in the midfield to distribute the ball to the forwards. So much talent and selfless passing from everyone created amazing opportunities to receive the ball, pass it on, move into space to receive it back, in the process eliminating the opposition quickly and easily. Selfless passing outside and inside the attacking circle meant many of the players scored a goal. The juniors, playing up in the senior competition were outstanding including Helena Williams who scored 3 goals, two from carrying the ball confidently into the circle herself and scoring from a shot on goal at a difficult angle. Our newest forward Hannah Bird scored two goals, one resulting from a pass from her aunt, Juliet Ding, at centre half. Sarah Court made her debut for Margaret River showing great promise in the backline. Junior player, Asha Altmann, was steady and strong in defence. Altmann also made a debut in the forward line scoring a goal. The team missed their regular keeper, Mathilda England-Brassy, but honestly she would have been bored with the ball rarely in the backline. Final result 12-0.
