Michael Rice will be taking to a global stage this Saturday night, hoping he can get the United Kingdom back on the left hand side of the leaderboard in the Eurovision Song Contest.

And nobody knows what hes feeling more than SuRie.

The songstress represented the UK last year with her song Storm, but while she did the country proud with her performance, her time at Eurovision will be remembered for one thing.

During SuRies performance, a stage invader ran on, grabbed her microphone and shouted: For the Nazis of the UK media, we demand freedom – causing absolute chaos.

SuRie continued on with her performance, and ended up coming 24th – and while the incident was traumatic, shes moving on.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the 30-year-old said: I think enough time has passed. Although because of the time it is, there have been cases of people posting the video online – but its in a kind way, with a really positive message or tweet. It has been going around again, but it hasnt been a problem.

Twelve months later, all the kind responses and the amazing reactions overshadow anything negative I experienced in those 10 seconds.

Now, shes passing the torch on to Michael, 21, who is hoping his song Bigger Than Us will impress Europe, and SuRies been giving as much advice as she can – to a point.

She said: Weve been chatting quite a bit, I spoke to him the night before he flew out to Tel Aviv. Theres lots of things that I want him to discover himself and have his experience and his moment, and work it out in his wonderful way. Id never want him to feel that I was telling him how to do it, or treading on his toes.

But Ive given him advice on a couple of things that I think he needs to know on the way out there. But until youre out there, nobody can prepare you for that.

And while Michael gears up for the biggest performance of his career, SuRie is kicking back and soaking up Eurovision like the rest of us.

Its really exciting to be a punter. I get to be a regular audience member. I watched the first semi-final and I found it so exciting, knowing the amount of energy and emotion and care that goes into each of those three minute mini-shows. It was really thrilling.

I loved Australia, oh my goodness. I know, thanks to experience, how busy and nerve-wracking it is in the wings, and the fact that she just calmly performed on a seven foot pole while everybody else is freaking out is amazing. I love the whole Kate Bush vibe.

Duncan Laurence from the Netherlands is my absolute favourite, as soon as I heard that song. It really speaks to me as an artist, its my cup of tea. I havent seen any clips stage wise – Eurovision can have such amazing tracks, but so much of it depends on the night, with all the elements coming together – so Im intrigued to see how its staged.

Its so good for the world of Eurovision. it challenges the stigma and the attitudes towards the competition that arent always so positive or supportive or accepting of the contest.

But while shes sitting out Eurovision this year, SuRie – real name Susanna Marie Cork – isnt disassociating herself from the brand. She will be performing at Bar Pop in Manchesters big Eurovision party this Saturday, and credits the contest with widening her fanbase.

She told us: Its given me an international audience of incredibly kind, loyal, supportive fans. I had a particular style at Eurovision with Storm, but the kind of songwriter Read More – Source
