The owners of Mercedes have said they have no idea how Kim Jong-un got hold of their armoured vehicles to use for his trips abroad.

The North Korean leader raised eyebrows using the German-made stretch limousines at several high-profile summits over the past two years.

Sales of luxury goods, including limousines, are banned under UN sanctions aimed at pressuring the nation to denuclearise.

But when Kim met with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week, he had two Mercedes Maybachs waiting for his arrival.

He is believed to have also used one of the cars for his summits with Donald Trump in Singapore in June last year and in Hanoi in February.
