Willcox wins coveted spot at Bells Beach

Margaret River's Jacob Willcox won a spot in the prestigious Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach this week and had a win in the first round against World Title threat Julian Wilson. Willcox was competing against the best during the trials, beating veterans Matt Wilkinson and Mason Ho en route to the main event. This was the second time Willcox has competed in the contest and was previously awarded a wildcard in 2013. "I'm pretty stoked to get this opportunity," Jacob said after his final heat win over Torquay surfer Xavier Huxtable and Crosby Colapinto from California. "I'm actually a bit of a wildcard veteran it feels like – I've had quite a few chances to surf in CTs over the years – and I'm going to do everything I can to make the most of it. "Hopefully, we get some good swell and we get to put on a show!" The World Tour event runs until April 27 and the Margaret River Pro will be on next month. Another Margaret River pro surfer, Jack Robinson, has announced he has jumped ship from sponsor Billabong and recently signed a lucrative deal with American surf brand Volcom. Forecast: a perfect week of waves with ESE winds on Thursday and a 2.2m swell. Friday has a similar 2m swell and clean ENE winds. Saturday drops to 1.3m with NE winds so there will be some waves at the swell magnets while Sunday picks up slightly with more NE winds.
