Bunnings blitz for Margaret River Community Centre | Photos

Margaret River Community Centre was a buzz with workers from Bunnings this week undertaking a community blitz. Bunnings employees from Australind, Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River gathered to dig, rake, plant, paint and construct, as a team building initiative that sees staff from around the southwest making a constructive difference in their communities. Activities Officer from Bunnings Margaret River, Amber Sullivan loves the opportunity to work both with her colleagues and with local community groups to make things happen. "We consulted with the Community Centre to identify a number of projects that we could support with materials and labour then came up with a plan to complete these, recruiting regional staff for the blitz. "Staff love getting stuck into these days of action and it's great for getting to know each other away from our store roles." Cubbies were constructed for the Community Centre for Children, new tables provided for Soupie diners and the garden beds outside of Life Without Barriers were revamped. Chair of MRCC, Sally Hays was appreciative of the contributions. "To have a lot of smaller projects that would otherwise be waiting for funding opportunities, completed by an enthusiastic team makes a real difference to the operation of our not-for-profit centre. "The Washhouse Art Space, which was the laundry area for the original hospital, got a revamp – painting, new bench tops and improved ventilation. This will make a real difference to the people of all ages who use this creative space." "We extend a big thank you to Amber, Sarah, Kobe, Blair, Jacob, Donna, Bec, Lochie, Neva, Mick and Bree, and to our maintenance worker Richard who did a lot of prep work for the blitz."
