Mosimane: Let the league go, it’s sad what’s happening to football

Cape Town – Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes his team should concentrate on going all the way in the CAF Champions League after they stumbled in the Absa Premiership title race.

Sundowns lost 2-0 to SuperSport United on Wednesday to move down to third on the table, six points behind leaders Orlando Pirates although the Brazilians do have two games in hand on their rivals.

Masandawana are through to the semi-finals in the CAF Champions League after dismantling Egyptian giants A Ahly 5-1 on aggregate with the second-leg played in Cairo last Saturday and Mosimane feels his team would be better off concentrating on the continental tournament.

Mosimane told Supersport TV after the defeat on Wednesday: "Leave the league. My opinion."Credit to SuperSport, they were fresher. We played against a well-rested team. But it's not an excuse."We put ourselves in this position. So the league let it go to the team that's supposed to win it.

"Let's try the Champions League and put our energies on that. But you never know how football is.

"Sometimes the gods can change fortunes around and you still have a chance. But it's okay, let the league go where it's supposed to go."

Mosimane made a number of changes for the clash against SuperSport but lamented his team's poor defending as Grant Kekana and Gamphani Lungu scored to give Matsatsantsa all three points.
