This Anzac Day Bogan Shire residents will have the opportunity to hear from one of Australia's most decorated military soldiers. Former Australian Special Air Service officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rowan Tink became widely publicised after he was awarded the United States Bronze Star for his role commanding 150 SAS troops in Afghanistan during operation Anaconda in 2002. The operation involved a major drive by US-led coalition forces against al Qaeda forces, however it was Australian special forces soldiers who played a vital, coordinating role. READ ALSO: This year residents will have the opportunity to hear from the veteran with a special free event 'Bravehearts: Bold Minds' at the Rugby Club on Wednesday April 24 from 6.30pm. The event is sponsored by NLAG, the Department of Primary Industries and Duck Creek Picnic Races for residents to enjoy a night listening to Lieutenant Colonel Tink discuss his experiences. This year there are a number of activities being held within the Nyngan for community members to pay respect to those who have served and are still serving in the armed forces. President of the Nyngan RSL Sub Branch Derek Francis is encouraging all members of the community to join in the special ceremony this year. The Dawn service will be held at the cenotaph at 6am, followed by the service at the cemetery ceremony at 9am. The march will form at the RSL from 10.30am and will leave for the Cenotaph at 10.45am. The official ceremony will begin at 11am with the address given by Lieutenant Colonel Tink.
