Future of Bogan shire water still uncertain

The future of Nyngan's water supply remains uncertain, as the drought continues to hold. Bogan Shire Mayor Ray Donald took the time at the Seniors Morning Tea on Thursday to highlight the future of the town's water supply. "It does appear if we don't get any rain inflows in the Burrendong dam, then the Macquarie river could run dry by March next year, we've been told by water authorities," Councillor Donald said. "Which is a pretty horrendous thing to even think about." READ ALSO: Cr Donald said the Bogan shire will maintain level two water restrictions until the end of the water year, which aligns with the end of the financial year, however after this the shire's allocation will be cut back and water restrictions will be increased. "I know that's sad because we all enjoy our gardens whether we live in town or on properties, they are our little green oasis' in the middle of what's a desperately dry situation," he said. "Hopefully that won't eventuate, but the council are working very hard with authorities to make sure we have an alternate supply of water for domestic use, if that unfortunate situation occurs early next year." He went on to acknowledge neighboring towns, such as Bourke who are already on level five water restrictions.
