Bushfire advice issued for Cape Leeuwin area

A bushfire advice has been issued for people in the vicinity of Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River. The fire is moving fast in a westerly direction and is contained, but not controlled. Around 20 firefighters are on the scene, actively fighting the fire and building containment lines, while aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews. There is no threat to lives or homes however there is a lot of smoke in the area. Roads are closed to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, and Leeuwin Drive from the corner of Scenic Drive to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is also closed. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke. Although there is no immediate danger, the alert advises residents to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. The fire started near Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and was reported just before 10pm on Thursday evening. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
