More than $200,000 of funding will help improve a not-for-profit charity's online portal so that it can continue to deliver services to providers in times of disaster. GIVIT was given funding from the Federal Government to help improve its Online Disaster Management Service donation management portal. The $275,000 grant was provided by the Government's 2018-19 Disaster Resilience Package. GIVIT's NSW Drought Relief Manager Scott Barrett said since coming on board with the charity he has seen exponential growth. "Since we've been in drought in NSW what we've been able to do, the good, we've been able to deliver, the people we've been able to help, the local businesses we've been able to put money through, the increase in that has been huge," he said. Mr Barrett travels all over western NSW visiting places such as Nyngan, Coonamble, Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, Ivanhoe, Cobar, Gulargambone providing drought relief. The recent Federal funding along with the state funding that helps him provide support to towns is recognition that GIVIT is a good, solid, safe platform and an effective way for people to give and receive donations/ "It's recognition for the fact that we have been getting the right things, for the right people in the right way," Mr Barrett said. "This also helps the other charities and community groups in the towns. The better our system is the easier it is for the local CWA to access the goods that we can provide." "We've seen what appears to be some false breaks… but the bulk of the state is still feeling the effects of thee drought and that's individual farmers our local businesses and local economies…," he said. "We're here for the long-term to continue with that support." If anyone is out there, whether they be community groups or charity organisations, Mr Barrett urged them to register with GIVIT. "People will be surprised at how easy it is to do," he said. "That will just be made easier with this funding."
