Lil Nas X received the best birthday present with the news that his viral country trap song Old Town Road has reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 – after help from Billy Ray Cyrus.
The trap rapper, who turned 20 today, can celebrate his new age with the victory after Billboard removed the song from its country chart following a debate about what country music truly is.
But things took a dramatic U-Turn when country legend Billy Ray came to recuse by remixing Old Town Road with hopes that it will find its way back on the country chart.
And now, according to Billboard, the song has jumped from number 15 to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Who needs the country charts when you can top the Billboards 100?
Explaining their decision to remove the song from the country chart, Billboard previously said in a statement: Upon further review, it was determined that Old Town Road by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboards country charts.

The Chart Data Twitter account claimed last week that the song would have reached the number one spot on Billboards Hot Country Songs chart if it wasnt removed.
Showing his support for Lil Nas X, Billy Ray said in an Instagram post last week: Been watching everything going on with OTR. When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me “Take this as a compliment” means youre doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!
