Students from the region's smallest schools have come together for a week of learning at the biannual Small Schools Super Camp. Kids from Hermidale, Girilambone, Carinda, Gwabegar, Pilligar, Wanaaring, Quambone, Marra Creek, Enngonia,Louth public schools and Bourke School of the air gathered at the Nyngan Showground for a week of socialisation and wellbeing. The department of education camp is run in conjunction with the Uniting church who link Sydney schools to come out and spend the week with the bush kids. Girilambone Public School principal and one of the camp coordinators, Angela Lewis said it was "fantastic" to bring together the 10 small schools and distance education students to help them engage with other children their own age. "It's great and helps build bridges and close the gap of a lot of isolated schools," Ms Lewis said. "It also brings out students who are great role models for the younger kids also. "It shows the kids that there is a big wide world out there that they may never have believed before. "And the Sydney kids get among it with the kids, which is really wonderful to see. "Everyone has had such a great time." Students were broken in to stage groups and undertook a variety of activities including art, sport, STEM, music and dance. In the afternoons the children are given free time to participate in a number of activities such as craft and touch football, in the evenings they also held a movie night, games night and disco with a showcase on the Friday morning for families to display what they have learned. Uniting Church groups from Gordon/Pymble, Broken Hill, Narromine and Nyngan helped cater the entire event, volunteering their time. Ms Lewis thanked all the volunteers from the Uniting Church, students and teachers from the Sydney schools and the Bogan Shire Council for their support and assistance. "The Uniting Church volunteers have done an awesome job feeding us, everything has been home baked with love." "The Bogan Shire Council are fantastic, they prepared the venue for us, cleaned the pavilion, and helped us with anything else we needed."
