Smith, a senior director of nursing in Boston, told CBS Boston: A few of the nurses at Franciscan Childrens Hospital approached me and asked, “Have you met Gisele?” and I said, “No. Why?” and they said, “She needs a medical foster home and you two are the perfect pair.'”

I have never considered fostering or adoption.

The two bonded immediately, a blog post by Franciscan Childrens reports, with Liz visiting the curly blonde and blue-eyed girl at the end of every shift.

Despite Giseles complications from being a premature baby, visits by her parents became increasingly rare.

Gisele was taken under state custody in October 2016 as her parents were battling a drug addiction and were considered not fit to be her carers.

When it was clear the girl needed to experience life outside the hospital in order to do well, Liz, with the encouragement of friends and co-workers, decided to foster Gisele with the end goal being reuniting the child with her parents.

While the parents initially visited their daughter every week, their meetings became less and less frequent.

Recollecting the fostering period, Liz said: I remember certain nights, one in particular, when she was hooked up to the feed and I was walking by the mirror and the thought went into my head of losing her.

I had to go there in my mind because it was still a reality, but it made me sick to my stomach. You cant just love a certain percentage. You have to give it your all.

That was when Liz took the decision to step up the fostering to adoption.
