Martha (Belinda Giblin) has been in the Bay for a little while now, and Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher) has found himself enjoying her company. While his newfound happiness is a pleasant development for John (Shane Withington), Marilyn (Emily Symons) and Ryder (Lukas Radovich), things are about to become more complicated.
Martha and Alf check in with Marilyn to see how Jett (Will McDonald) is getting on in Afghanistan, and this reminds Martha that she hasnt spoken to Roo (Georgie Parker) in weeks. Alf reminds her there isnt any phone reception in the Kimberly, but Martha is insistent that she has to make the call.
When she tries to get through, it goes to voicemail repeatedly, and this leads Martha to get increasingly worried and anxious. Why does she need to speak to Roo so urgently?
Her anxiety continues through to the next morning, where she is even more worried about her daughter, and she refuses to let Alf calm her down. She becomes irrational and snaps at him – she cant relax until she knows Roo is OK.

Alf is shocked following Marthas outburst, and finds her fretting outside, desperate to speak to Roo. Alf is unsure whats happening, and the longer he stands with her, the more distressed she becomes. Marilyn intervenes, taking Martha for a drink, and Alf is left feeling bewildered.
After speaking to John, Alf goes to find Martha, who breaks down and cried, apologising for her behaviour. They decide to call Roo on an emergency contact number, and finally get through.
