A relaxed Kelsey-Lee Barber hopes early world championship qualification will ease the pressure of being the No. 1 seed in the Australian titles javelin final on Saturday.
Barber booked her ticket to the world championships in Doha with a 62-metre throw in the preliminary stages of the competition in Sydney on Thursday night. It put her almost four metres ahead of her main rival, Kathryn Mitchell.

Barber has only just returned to competition after taking time away from events to focus on training, but she showed no signs of rust to blow past the qualifying standard by 50 centimetres.
She will, however, have to increase that distance by two metres when Tokyo Olympic Games qualifying starts in the coming months.

"Kathryn [Mitchell] is obviously my biggest competitor for tomorrow night, she's proven that she's an absolute world class competitor and has a much farther throw on the board in terms of personal best. So she'll definitely give it a good crack tomorrow night," Barber said.
