GWS Giants midfielder Rebecca Beeson has won the Gabrielle Trainor Medal at the club awards night on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old started the season seeking more time in the midfield and quickly adapted to the role, averaging 16.3 disposals per game and 72 per cent disposal efficiency.
Giants coach Alan McConnell said the former forward had a "fabulous season" as she transitioned between positions.
"Her ability to use the ball well was pivotal in a number of our games," he said. McConnell also commended Gaelic footballer Cora Staunton and Giants vice-captain Alicia Eva, who both finished just two votes behind Beeson in the count. "For [Staunton] to finish equal-runner up when she is still learning the game shows how great an athlete she is," McConnell said of the Irish legend.

“Alicia had a quieter start to the season but came home with a storm and, as always, she was a
significant part of our playing group as a leader both on and off the field.”
The award is named in honour of Gabrielle Trainor, an inaugural Giants board member and member of the AFL Commission known for pioneering the development of women's Australian rules football in NSW.
The Giants had a difficult season as they struggled to put scores on the board but finished on a high with their second victory in the final game against Geelong.
