Man with stage 4 liver cancer plans dream trip after winning lottery
A man stricken with stage 4 liver cancer is planning his dream vacation after winning the lottery.
Richard Beare, of Charlotte, North Carolina, said he plans to use the $250,000 jackpot he claimed Monday to travel the world with his wife while I can still enjoy myself, he said.
Beare said he rarely plays the lottery and only stopped by the Quick Trip convenience store because his wife asked him to get a Powerball ticket – but the Powerball ticket is not how he ended up scoring the windfall of cash.
He said he decided to buy four scratch-off tickets once he was inside the store and the last ticket ended up being the big winner.
Beare was not even sure how to read the scratch-offs, so he had to ask the store clerk for help.

I asked her: “What does it mean if I match the numbers?'” Beare said in a press release by the North Carolina Education Lottery.

She said it meant I won a prize. I told her, “Well, I guess we just won $250,000 then.” She was in shock and just kept looking back and forth to me and the ticket.
