Phillips quits Panthers after drink-driving charge

Tyrone Phillips has decided to resign from the Penrith Panthers effective immediately.

The Panthers speedster suffered a horror off-season when he became embroiled in the ugly sex-tape scandal that rocked the club before being charged with drink driving on Sunday night.

Speaking on Nines 100% Footy, Panthers supremo Phil Gould said: “Tyrone Phillips made the decision to resign from the Panthers effective immediately.”

“Its a been a difficult time of late and the latest thing on the weekend wasnt good enough.”

Questioned over whether Phillips intended to stay in the NRL, Gould responded that “he didnt know what he intends to do”.

Phillips was one of three Panthers players implicated in the now infamous sex-tape scandal.

On Sunday night Phillips was charged with a mid-range drink-driving offence.

The Panthers confirmed they were aware of the incident and referred the matter to the NRL integrity unit.
