Say cheese: Big smiles from Cambray team after award haul

Nannup farmhouse cheese producers Cambray Cheese have added more awards to their trophy cabinet. The family business entered five of their cheeses in the recent Western Australia Dairy Awards 2019, with each being recognised for its quality. Cambray Cheese won three gold and two silver medals, including the overall award of Grand Champion Dairy Product for their hard sheep milk cheese – Cambray Farmhouse Gold. To win the title, Cambray Farmhouse Gold went up against all the other champion products in the cheese, milk and yoghurt categories. Besides the Farmhouse, Cambray's Cumin Gouda and Blackwood Blue also won gold. Their Cheddar and Friesette won silver. Cambray Cheese is a family operation, led by Jane, Bruce and Tom Wilde. The business was a fusion of Jane's love of cheese-making and Bruce's knowledge in sheep farming, with son Tom working in the dairy. The team produce their range of handmade cheeses on the Wilde's family farm using traditional techniques. The farm, which is 12 kilometres outside of Nannup, also welcomes visitors for tastings, and to view milkings and the cheese-makers at work. The Wilde's said they were extremely honoured to take out the champion title and were thrilled by their results. "What we are most proud about our Farmhouse Gold winning is that it shows the true spirit of our small family business," they said. "Every single person here at Cambray plays an important role in the creation of this 18 month old sheep cheese, and we credit the ongoing success of this cheese to our team." The wins at the Western Australia Dairy Awards adds to Cambray's lengthy list of awards. In 2018, Cambray Cheese was successful at the Perth Royal Show winning the Champion Dairy Product and Champion Cheese.
