Office workers trapped in high-rise building as fire rips through tower block
Hundreds of people are believed to be trapped in a burning high-rise building in Bangladeshs capital.
At least one person is thought to have died after jumping out of the building, which witnesses said had been completely engulfed by thick smoke and flames.
Military helicopters have been scrambled and at least one person could be seen dangling from the chopper as it hovered over the roof of the FR Tower.
The building has 21 floors and is located on a busy avenue in Dhakas Banani commercial district.
The fire department said at least 19 firefighting units are working to douse the blaze.
Witness Sajib Hasan said he heard people shouting for help from the windows of the upper floors.
Heavy smoke deterred efforts by responders to get close to them, but Hasan said he watched at least a dozen people get rescued.
