New Optus tower to boost Redgate mobile coverage

Optus has switched on a new site in Redgate, bringing improved mobile coverage the South West corner of WA. The new tower, located near Caves Road, brings increased coverage along key tourist routes through the Margaret River winery district, including Leeuwin Estate. The telecommunications company said the new mobile site was built to provide residents, businesses and visitors with dedicated 4G coverage to make and receive calls, texts and access mobile data. Cameron Edwards, Optus Territory General Manager Regional Western Australia said the tower was the result of a 12 month effort to improve coverage in the area. "Redgate is central to that commitment," Mr Edwards said. "Along with the amazing wineries, the Margaret River region hosts a number of world class events and concerts and this new tower will provide much needed coverage and ease the load on other sites in the area, particularly during the peak tourism season." "Optus has shown its commitment to providing great coverage to our customers across South West, WA having switched on 10 new towers across the region in the last 12 months. These new sites continue to provide improved connectivity for our customers as well as offering real choice and competition for residents in the region," he said. The 10 sites switched on by Optus in South West, WA in the last 12 months include Lakes Road, Beaufort River, Greenfields Peel Health, Boyup Brook, Redgate, Molloy Island, Dardanup, Gracetown, Kendenup and Albany North East. The Optus mobile network handles over 31 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 16,128 terabytes of data each week. The telco said it was continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.
