Steaks are high in pub grub battle for WA’s best sanga

Margaret River's Settlers Tavern has joined the battle for glory in the Australian Hotels Association WA annual WA's Best Steak Sandwich competition. The competition sparks a fierce rivalry in pubs and restaurants, with almost 50 venues participating across WA. Other South West venues in the running include the Margaret River Hotel, Busselton's The Ship Inn and Bunbury's The Bayview Bar. Four finalists will be chosen from both the regional and metropolitan areas to participate in a live steak sandwich cook-off, held at the Australian Hotels Association WA Hospitality Expo at Crown Perth on May 14 and 15. Australian Hotels Association WA chief executive officer Bradley Woods said the competition always prompted vigorous public debate across the state. "Last year a lamb sandwich won the metropolitan competition and talk back radio went into meltdown," he said. "Each year we see more inventive creations emerge from kitchens across WA and patrons are being treated to a huge variety of different versions of this iconic meal. "There aren't many meals that trump a good steak sandwich and as a result of this competition raising the bar each and every year, we undoubtedly have the best steak sandwiches in the country. "We encourage people to get out and enjoy these masterpieces over the next four weeks." To vote, and see a full list of participating venues, visit www.hospitalitywa.com Voting closes on April 15.
