Local help needed for Margaret River Anzac Day services

Community members in the Margaret River region are being called upon to assist the local branch of the RSL as Anzac Day approaches next month. Margaret River RSL member Gordon Temby said with this year's Anzac Day services falling within the school holidays just after the Easter long weekend, large crowds are expected at both the dawn service and midday parade service. "Over recent years the Anzac Day services have been organised and conducted by a handful of RSL members with support from a couple of community members and the Margaret River Senior High Schools Emergency Service Cadets," Mr Temby explained. "The community of Margaret River and visitors to our area respect the importance of the services and have been attending in ever increasing numbers. "To be able to continue this commemorative event the RSL is asking community groups and individuals to assist by providing help in a number of areas. "We need somebody to pick up and return the chairs that are generously supplied by the Bowling Club and also somebody to collect the wreaths before the event as the florist has relocated outside the Margaret River CBD." Mr Temby said the group would continue to be supported by the Busselton Brass Band for the main parade and service at Memorial Park, but they were on the hunt for a bugler for the Dawn service. As with previous years, the Memorial Park dawn service is expected to be a drawcard for locals and visitors to the area keen to recognise servicemen and women as the sun rises, before a mid morning parade will see community members line Bussell Highway to commemorate Anzac Day. Information regarding service times and the parade route will be published in this paper in coming weeks, including details of the parade live streamed to Facebook. If you can help out with any of these requests, please contact RSL President Mr Keith Simmonds on 0499 309 854 or RSL member Gordon Temby on 0419 954 658.
