Bombers lack intensity, says coach Worsfold

Essendon coach John Worsfold has questioned his sides resilience and says his players need to show more intensity if they are to turn their form around this weekend against St Kilda.

Coming off the back of a 72-point drubbing at the hands of Greater Western Sydney in round one, Worsfold has refused to use a new game plan as an excuse for his side's poor performance.

“Its possibly a very small part of it,” Worsfold said before training on Tuesday.

“But the way we want to move the ball and the way we want to defend doesnt account for our effort in the game, thats probably the bigger area the players are disappointed in, the intensity at the contest.”

Worsfold said the club used several measures of effort and intensity and admitted the Dons werent up to scratch against the Giants.

“Some if it is just by eye, theres obviously GPS numbers, which indicate if players are working as hard as they can. They all have bands that they know they can hit.”

The veteran coach also conceded that there were warning signs in the Bombers pre-season campaign, with no wins from two JLT matches.
