Godzilla: King Of The Monsters director Michael Dougherty is dreaming of a Marvel spin-off.

A Godzilla vs Avengers crossover movie would make the world a better place the director says, ahead of the release of the second Godzilla film.

Sharing a 1979 comicbook cover on Twitter, Dougherty threw it back to a time when Yellowjacket and The Wasp prepared to face the monstrous Godzilla.

The two worlds collided back in the 1970s when the Marvel Comics Group acquired the licensing rights to make a Godzilla comic book series.

These days Disneys Marvel Cinematic Universe directly clashes Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures MonsterVerse.

Under the MonsterVerse umbrella, are the franchises King Kong, Gozilla, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah from Toho.

The mighty crossover Godzilla vs. Kong is also due in 2020.

Despite the current rivalry, Dougherty previously said that MCU owes a lot to the MonsterVerse.

He said: I dont know if this was brought up before, outside of the universal classic monster movies, Toho is one of the first companies to pioneer the idea of a shared universe.

They were doing it long before Marvel was. So, they did it via the creatures. Mothra was a completely separate film from Godzilla when it started. Same thing with Rodan. So it feels like things are coming full circle.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is due on May 31, 2019, starring Millie Bobby Brown, Sally Hawkins, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler and Charles Dance.
