Jordan Peeles Us is a terrifying look at the other and privilege, and what would happen if we were confronted with the opposite of our lives.

Starring Lupita Nyongo and Winston Duke, the film is set in 1986 and then current day and deals with a family whose holiday home is invaded by doppelgangers.

Its one of those films that everyone will view differently but director Jordan has placed several Easter eggs in there to help us out.

Corey Feldman:

Eighties icon Corey actually gets several Easter eggs in the film, with Jordan Peele acknowledging that its largely because he played such a huge role in 80s pop culture.

We then see a young Adelaide and her parents hit up the Santa Cruz boardwalk on holiday, and its the same beach and boardwalk where The Lost Boys, the vampire classic also starring Corey, filmed.

In fact, the line you know theyre shooting a movie over there by the carousel, as spoken by Adelaides mother, is a reference to the production of The Lost Boys.

Later, Adelaides father wins her a Michael Jackson Thriller t-shirt, and Corey was close friends with the singer during his childhood.

The Goonies:

The Goonies get several references (Picture: Rex)

The Goonies Easter eggs are very much connected to Corey Feldman, who starred in the action adventure film, but deserve their own mention.

The first reference comes very early on with a VHS tape of The Goonies sitting alongside the TV that a young Adelaide is watching.

The Goonies is also referenced again later in the film with Red telling the Wilson family its our time now.

C.H.U.D:

C.H.U.D is a 1984 American science fiction horror film about monsters who live below the city, and its appearance at the beginning of the film is a pretty big clue of what viewers can expect.

If youre not familiar with the film, it shows the lives of a subterranean group of people who live in sewers.

And, what do you know, Adelaide just happens to basically become one – which might be how she manages to survive so well down below.

Jordan Peele also revealed a personal reason for the C.H.U.D reference, as his first girlfriends dad actually directed the film.

In a chat with Polygon, he confessed: My first girlfriends father directed CHUD, when I was, like, 11 or 12 or something like that. Her father was Douglas Cheek. So that was my introduction to CHUD.

So theres a little personal thing for me.

Hands Across America and the Tethered chain:

Hands Across America was a charity event that asked millions of Americans to hold hands on 25 May 1986 for fifteen minutes along a path across the contiguous United States.

The idea was to raise money for local charities to fight hunger and homelessness but it only raised $15 million and there were miles and miles of gaps in the chain.

The film opens with a trailer for the event, and young Adelaide was wearing a T-shirt for the event until she covers it with the Thriller tee.

At the end of the film, the Tethered who have made it out to the real world form their own chain because its one of the few things a young Adelaide – who by this point we have discovered was living in the tunnels all along – remembers and has waited her whole life to perform.
