Workshop lessons help landowner nab teen following rural offences

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested and charged by police in relation to a string of offences that occurred in the Dubbo region. In late October a number of crimes were committed on a property in Dandaloo, near Trangie. “The offender entered the cab of the loader and stole a UHF radio,” NSW Police State Rural Crime Co-ordinator Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside said. During the incident, 350 litres of diesel was also stolen from the loader. Det Insp Whiteside said the property owner had recently attended a Tackling Rural Crime workshop that was delivered by the Trangie Rural Crime Prevention team. “The landholder was able to put into practice what was learnt at the workshop, including a timely report to the police and crime scene preservation measures,” he said. READ ALSO: Residents urged to dob in a dealer during campaign “The landholder secured evidence at the scene which assisted greatly in this investigation.” Rural crime investigators and specialist forensic officers then commenced an investigation. “As a result of the inquiries made and the analysis of forensic material an 18 year-old Dubbo man was arrested on December 28, 2018,” Det Insp Whiteside said.
