Pitso defends celebrating winning goal against Chiefs

Cape Town – Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has defended his goal celebrations against Kaizer Chiefs which involved running down the touchline.

The portly Mosimane showed his delight by having a touchline trundle in the opening minutes as Anthony Laffor slotted home. Willard Katsande later leveled matters for Chiefs but it was Downs who had the last laugh.

A horrendous error by goalkeeper Virgil Vries allowed Lebohang Maboe to score the winner inside the final 10 minutes.

After Maboe had rammed home from close range, Downs' mentor 'sprinted' off towards the forward in jubilation though he may not have the same turn of pace as he had in his playing days.

Speaking after the Premiership clash, the 54-year-old said: "Chiefs always beat us, and we always beat them, so it's not about Kaizer Chiefs. It's about the moment, it's a big game and you want the three points.

"It was a difficult game for us, emotions [were high], maybe I copied it from Steve [Komphela], so I was running everywhere, everybody's running so why can't I run once?

"I've seen Dan Malesela running, everybody's been running, so can I also run once? Let the emotions go, why not? It's not to disrespect the opponents.

"It's a big three points. Last year we were here, and I told you the point that we got here was big, and some of you were not happy. I told you it would come in handy at the end, and maybe you forgot what happened last year."

Currently the Brazilians are fourth in the standings, eight points behind leaders Bidvest Wits. However, the 2016 African champions do have the luxury of three matches in hand.
