UNs Griffiths, Cammaert in Yemens Sanaa for talks with Houthis

The United Nations announced that its special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, will head to Yemens capital Sanaa on Saturday and later on will go to Saudi Arabia where he will be holding talks with President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

In the meantime, obstacles hindering the implementation of the Sweden agreement regarding the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah prompted the UN head of the truce monitoring committee, retired Dutch General Patrick Cammaert, to travel to Sanaa ahead of Griffiths arrival there in preparation for talks with the pro-Iranian Houthi leaders.

These meetings come ahead of the upcoming third meeting of the Joint Tripartite Coordinating Committee for the redeployment in Hodeidah expected next Tuesday.

The UN head of truce monitoring committee, retired Dutch General Patrick Cammaert, concluded the second round of consultations in Yemen, which was marked by persistent refusal of the Houthi militias to abide by Sweden agreement and the handing over of Hodeidah ports and withdrawal from the city, after the second round of consultations ended without any results.
