Surfers spot shark at Injidup
Surfers at Injidup evacuated the water earlier today after a shark sighting at 12.30pm. According to reports, the 3 metre shark, believed to be a white shark, breached 20 metres in front of surfers. It follows the closure of a section of beach at Canal Rocks, near Yallingup on January 3. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions extended the Regulation 44 closure for this area, due to the slowly decomposing whale carcass that remains in this location. The area covers the locations between the unnamed headland at the western end of Canal Rocks to the south (past Wyadup Rocks) to a point on the beach north of Mitchell Rocks. The decomposing whale carcass may continue to act as an attractant to sharks. Beach closure signs remain in place. The closure will remain in force at least until 6pm on Thursday January, 10, when a further review will be conducted. If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.
