Manyama: Chiefs ‘confidence levels are high’

Cape Town – Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebogang Manyama says the Soweto giants are "in a good phase" as they prepare to lock horns with Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Amakhosi have won three games on the bounce since Ernst Middendorp took over from Italian coach Giovanni Solinas in December, scoring a combined total of seven goals without conceding.

However, they will face their biggest test under Middendorp when Sundowns come to the FNB Stadium, with Pitso Mosimane's men eyeing a return to winning ways after being held to a disappointing goalless draw by Baroka FC last time out.

And, it doesn't get any easier for Middendorp's side, as they can expect another stern battle when they visit top-of-the-table Wits next Wednesday.

"We have two big games in a space of 4 days but we're not thinking about Bidvest Wits yet because Sundowns are going to be a big test," Manyama told the clubs website.

"We're taking it one game a time and improving with every training session.

"Everybody will say the teams we played against are not so strong with the exception of SuperSport United. If you want to swim with the big fishes, then you have to go out and compete.

"Right now, we're in a good phase. The confidence levels are high, and the energy levels are high."

Just one-point separates Chiefs and Sundowns in the Premiership standings, although Mosimane's men do have three games in hand.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
