Cape Town City’s Mpho Matsi joins Maritzburg on loan

Cape Town – Cape Town City have confirmed that defensive midfielder Mpho Matsi has joined Premiership rivals Maritzburg United on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by in the first half of the campaign, with Citizens boss Benni McCarthy boasting a wealth of riches in the middle of the park.

City took to Twitter to confirm the news, saying: "Cape Town City midfielder Mpho Matsi will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Maritzburg United.

"Best of luck to Mporoza and we look forward to welcoming him back in 6 months."

The addition of Matsi will undoubtedly be a major boost for Maritzburg, with the team currently rooted to the foot of the table on 11 points, albeit with a game in hand.

The Mamelodi-born player's versatility will come in handy for Maritzburg boss Muhsin Ertugral, with Matsi also able to operate in the centre of defence.

Matsi joined Cape Town City along with many of his team-mates in 2016 after Mpumalanga Black Aces sold its Premiership status to the Cape side, while he was previously on the books of University of Pretoria.
