Victory’s Honda to miss a month with hamstring strain
Melbourne Victorys Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda will likely miss four weeks with a fresh hamstring injury sustained at training on Tuesday.
After being deemed touch-and-go to line up in Victorys game with the Phoenix last Friday, the clubs medical staff determined he needed more time to recover from his existing hamstring tightness and lower back soreness, which kept him out of Victory's previous two fixtures.
After completing a full training session on Monday, the marquee import was excused from training on Wednesday to undergo scans, which confirmed a strain in his right hamstring.
Coach Kevin Muscat said the injury was disappointing for the club and its fans, and lamented the timing of the breakdown heading into a period in which Victory play seven games in a month.
“While there wasnt a specific incident of note, Keisuke reported tightness in the area, so we again sent him for scans and received the results late in the day," said Muscat.
Victory faces the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday.
