Coachellas 2019 line-up has been announced, and music fans are losing their minds.

And not only because Ariana Grande, Tame Impala and Childish Gambino are headlining.

The traditionally eclectic line-up is more diverse than ever, with BLACKPINK marking the first time a K-pop girlband has ever joined the bill.

And J-pop is being represented too, as Perfume will be playing the Sunday stage on 14 and 21 April in Indio, California.

The girl group, made up of Ōmoto Nocchi Ayano, Kashino Kashiyuka Yuka and Nishiwaki A-Chan Ayaka, have been together since 2000 and are one of Asian musics most successful girlbands.

And just months after releasing their sixth studio album Future Pop, Perfume will be taking hits including Sweet Refrain, Spending All My Time, Polyrhythm and Baby Cruising Love to Coachella.

The girls have a technopop sound cultivated by their longtime producer Nakata Yasutaka, with Nocchi explaining to Forbes: Weve been together since we were teenagers and working with the same producer ever since then. The entire time, Nakatas been writing songs for us that match the specific time of our lives so that the music has actually matured with us.

But for this record, he went back and wrote songs that feel young at heart. Since we have so much experience, we felt confident that we could tap into those feelings regardless of our age.

While Japanese bands including X Japan and Otoboke Beaver have played Coachella before, its believed that Perfume are the first J-pop girlband to play the festival.

As well as Perfume and BLACKPINK bringing Asian pop to the California desert, Korean indie band Hyokuh will be heading to Coachella for the first time.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about how K-pop has changed how Korean music is viewed, frontman Oh Hyuk said: Sometimes it works as a pro, sometimes it works as a con – but thats the way with everything.

I think its really interesting and its fun to watch. Because of it, I think in some aspects were are benefitting from it, thats really great. But nothing is forever, there will be some point when K-pop wont be as popular. But because were not K-pop, I hope we stay popular even when K-pop is not.
