Gargash: Houthis use violence, children, mines and food in fight against Yemen

The Houthi militias use violence, children, mines and food in their fight against Yemen and its people, the UAEs Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Gargash commended the WFPs report revealing that the Houthis take food aid and sell it for cash to citizens.

“The World Food Programmes report on the Houthi militias trading food aid is important and documents these practices. The truth is that the Houthis in their war against the state and the Yemeni people use violence, children, mines and food and it is time for other organizations to be as transparent,” Gargash said.

Food aid meant for starving Yemenis is being stolen and sold in some areas controlled by Houthis, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday.

After hearing that humanitarian food was being sold on the open market in Sanaa, WFP said it found many people had not received the food rations to which they are entitled, and that at least one local partner organization affiliated with the Houthi Ministry of Education was committing fraud.
