Emergency services attend to an illegal campfire at Kilcarnup

Walcliffe Volunteer Fire Brigade have warned people not to light campfires in the bush during summer after an illegal campfire at Kilcarnup was attended to by emergency services. In a post on Facebook, the volunteer service stated it was the second fire they had dealt with after another illegal campfire was started at Boranup North Point on Sunday, December 30. “We need the message to hit the muppets that are lighting them. Especially as we head into New Years Eve and a warm few days ahead,” the message stated. “It's a pretty simple message. It's summer. No campfires.” In January this year, residents in Augusta were forced to flee their homes after a bushfire broke out from a campfire which was lit by a visitor staying at the West Bay Caravan Park. Suspicious fires should be reported to 000., Campfires in national parks can be reported directly (anonymously) to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions on 9752 5555.
