Coronation Street spoilers: Chris Gascoyne teases Peter Barlow boat explosion tragedy

Theres disaster on the horizon for Peter Barlow as his project to refurbish a boat and go on a life changing trip will end in tragedy in Coronation Street. Reports have already suggested that an fire will consume the boat, potentially leaving Peters son Simon trapped – and Chris Gascoyne has admitted that the tragedy that is coming for Peter is sad as he has such high hopes for the new year.

Carla has gifted Peter the boat after giving him a pep talk about jumping from business to business and as 2019 dawns, the project leaves him full of purpose and ambition to get away from the rat race once and for all.

Chris told Metro.co.uk: Carla gifts him a boat. Its one that would sail to the Caribbean. Its beautifully called “Lost Boy” he has to do it all up which he does to pristine condition with a certain person that we cant name. A very unlikely person whos in the show. Its not Simon.

His plan is that hes really happy doing the boat, but hes doing it up to leave. He thinks hes going to go. I dont think hes having a mid-life crisis. Hes always had a crisis, I dont think mid-life is any different. Youd think it would be a car, but its not, its a boat. He sees is as a way to leave, but its a dream. Thats the sad thing, hes working on this boat with the idea of “Im going to do this up and Im going to leave all this behind”. Thats the great thing about it, why hes put so much work into it, its the tragedy of what happens.

At the moment, fantastic. Its all going to happen, he thinks “this is it, Im happy, Im not doing this job”, hes telling everybody hes a free spirit. He thinks hes got away from the rat race. Hes very zen.

It sounds like its all going to go wrong although Corrie remain tight lipped over exactly how disastrous things will get. But thankfully we shouldnt be seeing the death of Peter as Chris is happy on the show – and has his own idea of how the character should leave.

He pondered: If they said to me next year, were going to write Peter out or I say Ive had enough, Im finished for good, then I think the story that wed have to do is where he basically drinks himself to death. I dont think it would be a very nice storyline but I think it would be brilliant and its not been done. Over two years, something tragic happens, really tragic and hes already fell off the wagon twice where hes nearly died and I think they always say theres only three, and I dont think hes got another one in him to recover from it.

And if the damage is bad enough, I think he would drink himself into oblivion which would be a brilliant storyline to play out. Id be dead but if they wanted to say Ill run this storyline, I would like to do that.

Im not wanting to leave at all. I love it at the moment. Ive had a brilliant two and half years back. Im not saying Im chucking it in. It could be five or ten years but thats how I would like to play that story out. But not at the moment. If they did say well do it over two years and then youll be brown bread, then right ok. Otherwise do you stay here for ever? What do you do?
