Dame Julie Andrews has reportedly given her full seal of approval to the Mary Poppins remake.

The actress won an Oscar in 1964 for her role as the practically perfect nanny in the hit original movie – her feature film debut, no less.

The movies sequel, Mary Poppins Returns, hit theatres last week to supercalifragilisticexpialidocious praise, with Emily Blunt stepping into Dame Julies (rather large) shoes.

And according to the films director Rob Marshall, the 83-year-old is over the moon with the result.

Shes seen it, she said “I loved it” in huge capital letters and the email that she sent was literally, I cant tell you how long and about everything, he told the Press Association.

[It was] about Emily, she said Emily was wonderful, she loved her voice, she loved every single person in the cast, she was just over the moon about the whole thing. I was relieved and thrilled.

The director also revealed that he discussed the idea of Julie appearing in the sequel, suggesting he could write the Aquaman star into the script in some way.

But apparently she was certain Mary Poppins Returns should be a one woman show.

She said: “Oh no no no, this is Emilys show, she needs to run with it” and she was so right about that, she really was, Rob explained.

It was a very generous thing to say and smart because she knew we need to see this Mary Poppins and accept this Mary Poppins, and shes pretty special, Julie.
