New depot to service region

Western Power has officially opened the gates at their new $10 million facility in the South West which aims to bring a new era of service to the region. The newly constructed Vasse depot is Western Powers first purpose-built depot in almost 30 years and has replaced operationally inefficient leased sites in Busselton and the aged depot facility in Margaret River. Western Power Executive Manager Asset Operations, Dave Fyfe said the new complexs design was built with safety and efficiency of the staff and community top of mind. “This financial year alone local crews will complete over $9,000,000 worth of maintenance and network upgrades to the region from the new depot, “ Mr Fyfe said “Moving operations for the South West to a single site allows us to achieve ongoing operational efficiencies and cost savings for the all works that we conduct in the area and give our employees a safe and modern work facility,” he said. Local South West based construction firm, Perkins was responsible for the construction of the complex covering nearly two hectares of land in the Busselton industrial area. A key feature in the design is the establishment of covered parking for Western Powers heavy vehicle fleet that protects vehicles and staff from the elements. To ensure that the facility has a connection to the entire community the Vasse Depot has been named Mulgarup/Balbarignup, (meaning thunder and lightning) by the Wadandi people..
